Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated his call for a judicial inquiry into the violence that erupted on May 9th and the handling of the February 8th elections. Speaking to reporters during a court hearing for a £190 million corruption case, Khan urged Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, to expedite hearings on petitions submitted by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
Khan alleged that the “London plan” was being orchestrated by the establishment to undermine his party, leveraging the May 9th violence. He implored Chief Justice Isa to establish a judicial panel to investigate the incident, emphasizing the urgency of identifying those responsible for the violence, whom he claimed were shielded by the theft of security footage.
Furthermore, Khan attributed the purported “London plan” to the dismissal of cases involving the Sharif family and President Asif Ali Zardari. Due to what he described as a rigged National Assembly, he asserted that the PTI would not recognize the legitimacy of the Senate elections.
Regarding recent developments in the US Congress concerning the cipher scandal, Khan suggested that US diplomat Donald Lu’s endorsement of the Biden administration’s overthrow would have had adverse implications for the administration. Khan referenced former ambassador Asad Majeed’s testimony before the National Security Committee regarding Lu’s alleged “threatening tone.”
Responding to queries about his security, Khan emphasized that he was not responsible for safeguarding cipher documents and hinted at the existence of a system to handle such matters. He dismissed the Pakistani Election Commission’s investigation into allegations of electoral tampering, questioning its impartiality given the commission’s role in the electoral process.
Additionally, Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, issued a warning, asserting that the country would not tolerate any such incident and holding the Chairman of Army Staff, the head of ISI, and the Chairman of the Counter Terrorism Department accountable if any harm befell Khan.
