The School Education Department (SED) and Higher Education Department (HED) in Punjab have officially declared an extension to the winter holidays for all schools, both public and private, throughout the province. This move comes in line with a directive from the Lahore High Court (LHC), stressing the need to recognize the prevailing circumstances.
Updated Winter Break Dates:
The initially planned winter vacation, which was from December 18 to December 31, has now been prolonged, concluding on January 9, 2024.
Reopening Details:
All educational institutions, regardless of whether they are public or private, will resume operations on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. This signals the start of a regular school week for students.
Continuation of COVID-19 Safety Protocols:
Even with the extended break offering students relief, it’s essential to note that specific COVID-19 safety guidelines will persist. The mandate for wearing masks within school compounds remains unchanged. This action reflects the departments’ dedication to safeguarding the health and security of students and faculty alike.
Directive for Implementation:
The Chief Executive Officers of District Education Authorities (DEAs) in various districts have been explicitly instructed to ensure the strict enforcement of these directives. Educational institutions must strictly follow these stipulations to uphold a safe learning environment.
This move to lengthen the winter holidays aligns with the recent pronouncement by the Lahore High Court, underscoring the court’s cognizance and understanding of the current circumstances.
