The Punjab Budget aims to enhance support for electricity consumers by raising the allowance by 300 units. Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman unveiled these plans at a press conference, expressing anticipation for their approval in the forthcoming budget, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz overseeing their implementation.
The Punjab government has revealed intentions to introduce a tailored package for individuals consuming up to 300 units of electricity. Punjab’s Finance Minister, Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman, disclosed this during a media briefing at the Punjab Assembly premises, stating that they are currently devising a program for those utilizing less than 300 units of energy.
This initiative will be presented for approval in the upcoming 2024 and 2025 budgets, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz establishing an independent commission to ensure its effective execution. He further highlighted that an astonishing 2.5 crore Punjabi households fall within the category of consuming 300 units or less of power annually.
The increase in gas and electricity rates is directly linked to federal government policies, with the PTI’s inefficiency being cited as the cause for these rising expenses. Consequently, Punjab’s economy outperforms that of other provinces, with notable improvements observed in the tax system. Additionally, the government has earmarked 300 billion rupees for investment in these projects.
